CHRISTINE HAHN grew up in Ohio and Texas. She studied fine arts, graphic design, and art history at Hunter College in New York, the Art Academy in Cincinnati, and Montgomery College in Maryland. She works in a variety of media and forms including painting, photography, video, print, and music. She has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows.

While pursuing studies in New York, she became involved in the downtown art scene of the late 1970s and began performing as a drummer and percussionist. She was a founding member of the bands Daily Life, The Static, and CKM Introject playing at Mudd Club, Max's, The Kitchen, Artists Space among other venues for experimental music and art. After a band tour of Europe, she collaborated with Martin Kippenberger on a magazine and record, and subsequently moved to Berlin to record an LP at Studio Christoph Franke with electronic musician and drummer Klaus Krüger. She worked as a musician for the next several years in Europe, and was a founding member of Malaria! with whom she did many recordings and performances.  

Ms. Hahn moved back to the US in 1984 and worked as a graphic designer in print and publications, and later as new media specialist for the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington DC. During this period she continued to exhibit her own work and was a member of two artist collectives. 

In 2023, her work with artist Martin Kippenberger was featured in Broken Music Vol. 2: 7 Years of Records and Sound Works by Artists at Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin. In 2013, her work from the LUXUS project with Martin Kippenberger was featured in  Sehr Gut/Very Good at the Hamburg Bahnhof Museum in Berlin. In 2023 she was included in Who Are You Staring At? Visual Culture of the no wave scene in the 1970s and 1980s at the Pompidou Centre in Paris; in 2009, she was included in Looking at Music: Side Two at the Museum of Modern Art and The Pictures Generation at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC for her work with LUXUS and The Static. She also appeared in the documentary, B-Movie: Lust & Sound in West-Berlin 1979-1989 (2015), No Wave Underground ’80 Berlin - New York (2009) and is featured on several video and sound recordings. Her work with Kippenberger and others is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the SFMoMA, the Tate Modern, the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna, Austria, the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, Netherlands, and Hamburg Kunsthalle in Germany, as well as in private collections in the US and Europe.

She has been working primarily as a solo artist since the late 1980s, but recorded an LP in Italy and Berlin with Bettina Koster which was released in July 2017.

She is listed on the Maryland State Artists Registry, Artists Space Irving Sandler Artist File, and the White Columns Curated Artist Registry and is currently exhibiting with NOMA Gallery in Frederick, Maryland.
